In 2008, the Orange County Sheriff's Department began taken precautionary measures for budgetary issues by creating the position of Correctional Services Assistants (CSA). CSAs are civilian employees who are hired to fill positions at county jails that are traditionally held by sworn sheriff's deputies.

High school notebook: GHFCA plans membership drive

The Houston Tennis Association is accepting applications for college scholarships that will be granted to graduating seniors in the Greater Houston area. The scholarships range from $1,000 to $2,000 and will go to high school students who have participated in varsity tennis and/or USTA Texas tournaments and do not already have a tennis scholarship. Selection is based on financial need, academic record, extracurricular and volunteer activities, a personal letter explaining why the student deserves a scholarship, and two letters of recommendation.
