Small Town Denmark WA Wins Big at 2012 GWN7 Top Tourism Awards

Denmark, Western Australia wins two top tourism awards at the prestigious GWN7 award ceremony, including tourism award for town with population of less than 5,000.

Denmark, Western Australia (PRWEB) October 16, 2012

On 20th September, Denmark WA won two prestigious awards at the GWN7 Top Tourism Award Gala Dinner as part of the Annual Visitor Servicing Conference in Mandurah. The first award was the Top Tourism Award for a town with population under 5,000. This award recognised Denmark for its ability to attract and welcome visitors, and the commitment and teamwork of the community and industry sectors to contribute greatly to its local tourism efforts.

The second award was the Environment Award, which recognises Denmark?s pristine beauty and biodiversity value ? which means that Denmark?s lush bushland, beaches, and forests are natural, beautiful, and unaffected by the hustle and bustle of modern civilisation.

Denmark is rapidly beginning to realise its potential as a jewel in the crown of Western Australia tourism. While Denmark is well-known for its luxury accommodation, wineries, cheese and chocolate factories, restaurants, natural parks, and beaches, Denmark has only scratched the surface, as it possesses assets that are just waiting to be visited and explored.

Ms Justine Nagorski, CEO of Denmark Tourism Incorporated (DTI), was quick to acknowledge those who she felt made the award possible. She acknowledged The Shire of Denmark local government for working closely with DTI, and for its ?unwavering and humbling? support. She also thanked the volunteers and staff at the Denmark Visitor Centre and the Great Southern Tourism Events, and acknowledged their ?drive and passion for the region,? which she feels has helped the tourism industry of Denmark to grow immensely.

Ms Nagorski?s biggest pat on the back goes to the Denmark tourism industry: ?I have worked in many different tourism industries across this state and even internationally and I have never met a more ambitious and dedicated group. You all work tirelessly to showcase Denmark to the world and we would not have been eligible for these awards without you.?

Kim Desmond Hames, Minister for Tourism, also acknowledged the winners: ?I would also like to congratulate all the finalists and winners, and thank them for their contributions to making the State?s tourism industry truly extraordinary.?

Other winners are the following:

Top Tourism Award winner - Rottnest Island
Cultural Award - Christmas Island
Heritage Award ? Fremantle
Website Development Award and Management/Staff Training Award - Busselton
Special Events Award - Kununurra
Community Relations Award - Esperance

Brendan Laing, owner of William Bay Country Cottages, luxury accommodation in Denmark, is ecstatic to see Denmark finally receive the recognition that he feels was long overdue: ?I am very happy that our peers in the tourism industry are finally beginning to realise what most of us around here have known for a long time: Denmark is one of the best tourism destinations, not only in Western Australia, but in the world.?

Laing continued, ?If you are looking for a place to get back to nature and take time off from the hustle and bustle of big cities, Denmark truly has everything you could possibly want. Our accommodation is located next to William Bay National Park. We have unspoiled land, pristine beaches, surfing, boating, whale tours, wineries that are making some of the best wines in the world, and plenty of award-winning chefs.?

Laing concluded, ?It would take me all day to tell you about all of the great things you could do here in Denmark. You have to see it yourself to believe it.?
