Free park and ride service for zoo visitors to run over Easter

BRISTOL Zoo is offering a free park and ride service for visitors over Easter weekend, after recent congestion.

The service, which is being provided by Bristol Community Transport, will run tomorrow, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday from the Portway park and ride in Shirehampton.

Buses will run every 30 minutes from 8.30am until the last pick-up from the zoo at 6pm. Parking at the park and ride site is free, as is the bus trip.

The service will help ease the strain on parking around the zoo. In recent weekends its main and overflow car parks have been full, as have nearby streets.

Chris Page, Bristol Zoo's head of guest services, said: "We are pleased to be offering this service as it will provide 500 extra car parking spaces for guests to the zoo this Easter weekend."

Jan Jones, a senior manager with BCT, said: "The park and ride site on the Portway is opening specially to enable us to provide a shuttle service for those visiting Bristol Zoo Gardens this weekend. We'll be using wheelchair-accessible minibuses to ensure that wheelchair users and those with buggies will be able to use the service."

The zoo will also be offering free park and ride services over the May Bank Holiday on May 6 and 7, over the Diamond Jubilee weekend on June 3, 4 and 5 and on August 27, the August Bank Holiday.
